When we seek to discover the best in others, we somehow bring out the best in ourselves.
– William Arthur Ward –
Wow, that quote really says it all. Don’t believe it? Try it! The author of the quote isn’t suggesting that we seek the best in them for the reward we may feel we are due in return. Life doesn’t work that way. Putting ourselves first so often leads to disappointment, yet putting our faith in the Lord and our love for Him and His people in a place of importance in our lives can change lives in the most amazing ways . . . if we are willing to do so. It can set you free! Why?
Why is this quote so life-giving and life changing? For me, when I seek Christ in others, I find Him. It’s as simple as that. When I look to Him and follow Him, I am blessed! The joy and delight which results from being in His radiant presence is unmatchable and any darkness in my life is replaced by His light. It’s as simple as that. How often, though, have I missed this as I grumbled and stressed and moaned . . . when the answer was within me as well as completely surrounding me like a loving embrace!
This is true! It happens all the time on mission trips. You go thinking that you’ll be helping them and telling them about God but most of the time they help you and you are the one who ends up growing in faith also.
