One Flickering Flame
by Martha L Shaw
Darkness.
Are you afraid?
Do you dare try . . .
You cannot overcome it,
or maybe . . .
One small candle lit
and held in shaking hands.
The light has come
but eyes squint to see it
and the flame flickers.
Suddenly, another candle
its wick still pure white
becomes enflamed.
Then another
and another still
and soon the warmth
touches hearts and souls
and the world is ablaze
with glory!

Oh, I forgot to tell you–I was raised in Episcopal church, though now I’m non-denom. Just a piece of trivia!

Yet another way we’re sisters in Him. Thank you. This poem was truly given to me by the Holy Spirit. I’m writing a book of inspirational poetry which is nearly finished. Never had a book published before and am hoping to find a publisher for it through the traditional route. Very difficult without an agent and when one is unknown. Seems publishers of Christian content rarely even read manuscripts from those who are not famous, I’ve been told. How can they even know if we have the talent they seek if they will not open the manuscript?

Yes, quite a mystery isn’t it–“fame” as criteria, credentials? That’s why I decided to be content and happy with the blog success–regardless how relatively small, and the “no paycheck thing”. God provides, so I’m just going to enjoy myself. And I will continue to pray that HE opens door for your publication! God bless you.

Thank you so much! My writing is a passion and this is a gift from Him. My heart and soul hungers to reflect His glory to the dark and hungry world and thus to live into the passion I have for Him. Provision is a serious challenge, but with the prayer support of Christian friends and with faith, all things work together!

I also blog on OpenSalon but it’s not the same sense of community as here. That being said I found out recently that someone who reads every post of mine is in fact an athiest or perhaps an agnostic. One of the few things I published there which generated discussion (seems like a secular world with folks not comfortable expressing their hearts – yet) was with “Frank.” I’d written on prayer and faith and he challenged me at length but respectfully. I think that the tiny seed of Christ’s love planted in our hearts before we’re born does, for certain, create a spark that never leaves us even when we focus away from Him. I’m sure your words are far reaching! Congrats on doing all you do! Glad to know you. Blessings, Martha

Thank you! Nice to meet you too. It’s hard to get a publisher or agent to look when you’re a first time book author, but everyone was a first timer once, so I’m trusting in the Lord to provide and trying to follow where He leads! Blessings, Martha
