“I Do Not Believe In Anything”

Wow.  Think about it.  How must life be for the individual who spoke those words to me a while back.  I am thinking of it now because I realize I am nothing if I don’t have Christ in me and the Holy Spirit to guard and guide me . . .  yet someone did speak the words in this post’s title to me.  He was polite.  He was direct.  He peppered me with questions to defend my faith, yet he believed in nothing.  I answered him and he didn’t hear me.  I can’t call him angry, nor can I call him joyful.  I think to have passion you must believe in something even if you do not share my own specific beliefs.

The man wouldn’t call himself an atheist nor an agnostic.  In his own words he admitted that to be an atheist he’d have to believe in something and so he couldn’t lay claim to that.  Why am I thinking of this now?  Well, I balanced the bank account which is a test of my faith and trust in the Lord since I am still seeking financial provision and have  been for a long time.  I paid the monthly bills and tried not to wonder “how much longer . . . ” since the human only sees, with her eyes, that which is of this world.

So, I got to thinking about the Lord and how much I love Him and felt sad for the man who believes in nothing.  Then I got to wondering what my life would be like in that man’s shoes.  I admit, I cannot even imagine, but returning to my own situation . . . no, the bank account is still low and the job situation is still void, but the Lord’s hand is all over my life situation.

I made coffee this morning using a coffee maker someone gave me when they heard my old one broke.  They even  brought it to my house the minute they heard my old one quit.  It was an extra . . . one they didn’t like.  Now I have coffee in the morning again.  I mowed my lawn using a gas mower and wow was it faster and easier than my old electric one.  The old one was a gift from my late father who didn’t care for gas ones.  It quit recently and as I wondered how to deal with the homeowners association who don’t care of unkempt lawns, a friend came over with a spare from her garage.  “It’s old but works.  It’s yours.”  Wow, was this allergy prone girl happy to  be done faster and sneezing less.

Now, I’m writing to you on a very old notebook that one person had, didn’t like and gave to another who heard my computer died and offered me this one.  It is older than mine that died and it has its faults, but I can do what I have to do with it for now and eventually will be able to have something new, but the crisis is over . . .

The love of the Lord is huge and comes in many forms . . . the fabric an old lady gave me realizing I loved to design and sew quilts and she “can’t use this and thought perhaps you . . . ” In the bag was matching thread too . . . sometimes Jesus blesses us with coffee makers, lawn mowers, and so many things that we do not perhaps think of as blessings, but oh, they are!

My mom just mentioned that on this morning’s Mass on tv they prayed for atheists and agnostics.  We may not always  notice all that we’re given, but they really do need our prayers . . .  they have no idea of all that they are missing.  Pray for them with me, won’t you?

Really good word–I can’t wrap my head around not believing in anything, but mostly I can’t imagine not having this relationship with Jesus. So glad to hear He is answering your need for certain provisions. God bless you, Sister~~love, Caddy

    • Thanks. We get scared when it seems a lot is “against” us yet He is for us, so all will be well. He loves us so much that He gives us things just to make us smile like the time I wanted to make a scarf with fancy yarn but didn’t feel it was proper to spend the money on a skein. That very day, as soon as I got on the computer, I had a message from some who was active on a craft forum I used to be very active on myself. She had asked for my mailing address because that very afternoon she had an urge to clean out a closet which contained craft things sh eno longer used. Among them some yarn. She mailed me a big box full of the ver yarn I had seen and did not splurge on buying. Amazing. He loves us so.

Praying with you too, dear Martha. I’m so glad that young man met you, someone who believes and sees the evidence of that belief each day. Today, I vacuumed with a sweeper my mom didn’t want or like and gave to me, just as mine was dying. 🙂 Love those kind of blessings! God bless you as He keeps His hand on you and covers every little thing that concerns you.

    • Thank you so much, Debbie. I am a firm believer in the power of prayer and it blesses me to have you as a prayer partner. Jesus didn’t die so that we could have religion – He died so that we could spend eternity with Him – in this life and the next. We are one body in Him and we will raise Him up and one another. Blessings!

    • His comments, in my opinion, suggested that he believed in “something” or hungered to. He did, however, hold fast to his own claim that he believed in nothing at all. Thanks for you comment and for reading my blog!
