Ask For Directions?

Do you read maps?  Engage your car’s GPS?  Do you stop at a gas station or convenience store and say “I’m lost, can you help?”  I know of a lot of people who’d admit to hating that and who’d likely waste a lot of expensive gasoline going in circles, but not ask for help.  Speaking for myself, it’s true in life if not in automobile . . . I like to earn an A on the test and I tend to view life’s journey and the situations that come to me as a test I need to ace and on my own.  To what degree and in which situations?  It’s not important and not really the point of this little post.  There is truth to it though.  I could kid myself, rationalize, or simply admit that I like feeling like “I’ve got this.”  But then I read this quote and I’ll admit I read it with a frustrated spirit because the morning didn’t go the way I’d looked forward to or planned.  Still, this quote rang true even in my distraction.

It may be that when we no longer know which way to go that we have come to our real journey. The mind that is not baffled is not employed. The impeded stream is the one that sings

                                                                                                                                                                 – Wendell Berry –

For me, my life’s real journey began when I truly surrendered my heart and soul to the Lord and began to be about His will and His plan for my life and less about my own desires and the need to “get it.”  The journey with Him isn’t about knowing which way to go on a map . . . it’s about trusting Him, moving in fear if necessary, and finding joy NOT from having all under my own control, but finding my peace and joy IN HIM.  When I am in THAT place, my soul sings and dnaces.  It’s good.
