Yesterday the new Time Of Singing, A Magazine Of Christian Poetry arrived.

Lora Homan Zill is the Editor.

Many years ago, I found this excellent poetry print journal through Poet’s Market.  I was teaching and remember I had completed my grades, and then I stopped at a bookstore at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, Illinois (late 1980s).

Lora included a note in the new TOS about the review I wrote for a new book by Luci Shaw.  I posted the review on Amazon.com, and the title of Luci’s book is Adventure of Ascent, Field Notes from a Lifelong Journey (IVP Books).  As Lora mentioned, former editor Charles A. Waugaman published Luci Shaw in Time OfSinging years ago.  My few short reviews for Luci Shaw’s books are thank you notes.

Karl and I are working on a chapbook for Quiet Christmas Poetry.  We are donating all proceeds to

Receive By Giving!

October 24, 2014

We so often hear pleas this time of year to spend money but giving from the heart goes in a potentially opposite direction.  A hug, a smile, a cup of tea, a listening ear . . . a loaf of homemade bread, a plate of homemade cookies, cakes, or muffins  . . . you will be amazed how doing so changes your day!  Be a blessing to someone today!

Peppermint Candy Christmas Ornaments

October 23, 2014

Peppermint Candy Christmas Ornaments

These edible ornaments are so simple and thrifty. You could make a dozen ornaments at just a dollar per bag of peppermints!

I first melted peppermints in cookie cutters after seeing the idea in an American Girl magazine, back in the 90’s (I’m pretty sure that a project centered around scalding hot, melted sugar would not make it into a children’s magazine these days). As easy as this project is, I had a difficult time finding anything similar to this online, so I decided to share it.

Use this method to create home decor or use these candies for edible decorating… one peppermint, melted in a tiny cookie cutter, would make a cute cupcake topper!

A Season of Rest

October 23, 2014

falling leaves 2

The dry leaves of my old life

Must wither and fall away.

Even as the wind

Blows the dust away,

It becomes the breath of new life

Whose seeds have already been planted.

Tiny sprouts rest and grow,

Eagerly pointing toward heaven!

5 reasons I’m a virgin at age 23 and I could scream it atop Pikes Peak

His wisdom from a courageous young woman!

The Chronic-ill(s) of a Quirky Teacher

I am 23 and I have never had sex. I plan on waiting until I’m married. Everyone who is waiting for marriage to have sex has his or her own reasons but I am sure we all have one in common: God’s intention for sex. About 3% of Americans wait until marriage to have sex. That is 1 in 30 people. To write about the reasons why I have remained abstinent from sex is something I hope touches someone in a positive way. It is only by the grace of God that I am still waiting. Before you continue reading, pause your current music and listen to Mount Zion by Jonathan Helser. I wrote to this masterpiece tonight!

Waiting to have sex isn’t old fashioned or unrealistic to me because waiting to have sex is truth from God and His word is forever, not…

With A Grateful Heart

October 20, 2014

16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. – Colossians 3:16

Lord, your love for me is beyond measure

and mine for you grows every day!

The warmth of your embrace

makes me forget my troubles for a time.

Help me to grow stronger in You

so that I may be the servant you created me to be!

Amen
