Snow Angels

December 19, 2014

Impressions in the snow,

A warmth no chill can mask,

Reminder of glad tidings

Both now and yet to come!

But Not Forgotten

Bits of sugar,

salt and flour

iced and setting on the tray.

Shared memories . . . making new!

It’s Not Over!

December 18, 2014
Digital Camera
The house was quiet
And the trappings put away.
I was tired,
Yet not ready to end the day
And sleep.
The sounds of peace,
The sweet taste of refreshment,
The glow . . .
Of stars,
Of moon,
Of Spirit . . .
It’s only just begun!

Love Is Like

December 16, 2014

The old quilt . . .

Its softness is enhanced

By age and use.

Its colors faded by the light of many days,

And its fibers show wear

Yet its beauty is all I see,

All I feel,

And all I know.

Its story is one of patience

And of time and effort.

It  contains both pain and pleasure.

The fabrics of many lives intertwined

To become one . . .

It is not one story,

But rather generations of stories

Shared by the fire,

Told over tea,

Revealed as fine thread

Wove scraps of many lives

Into something too beautiful not to share.

This lovely quilt, subject of the symbolism in my poem, goes back multiple generations in my family and is approx 150 years old.  Oh, the stories it has to tell me are many!

As I walked I saw the clouds

and frowned over coming rain.

I suddenly fell.

While I was down I noticed the flower in bloom.

How could I have missed it?

December Roses

December 12, 2014

The trees are bare of leaves

Yet strength remains

As branches await

The fresh blooms

Of the coming spring.

On my rosebush

Mostly  thorns remain

But it is still a rosebush just the same.

In my heart

I see the buds to come

And know their scent.

Faith is like

Roses in December.
