Tears of Joy

May 20, 2015

I sit at the water’s edge

hearing the music of the droplets

tumbling over the rocks at the shore . . .

sounds of strength and hope.

The man I love has caloused hands

from working so hard.

His shoes are filthy

because he’s always on his feet.

His smells sour . . .

the factory has no fans.

He doesn’t buy me roses

and drives a rusty car,

but he got that stranger something to eat.

I couldn’t go to boarding school,

but he pushed me on the swing

and told me stories when I could not sleep.

I want to be just like my Daddy.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You

“Yes, I KNOW!”

Do I understand?

“Yes, I LOOKED!”

Did I truly see?

“Yes, I was LISTENING!”

Did I really hear?

Thank you Lord

for your patience and love!

As humans and perhaps especially Americans, we want instant gratification. We’ve gone from drive-up windows to wrist watches with APPs. Maybe this is why, as a Spirit-filled believer, I find the following interesting. The word “discern” comes from Latin roots meaning “to sift apart.” It was of added interest to me that the word as used in Corrinthians was the Greek word “anakrino” which takes things even further adding “to inquire into, to scrutinize.” No room for assumptions or snap decisions on our part.  Perhaps His timing being unlike our own is far more related to our impatience than I would care to admit.

The river flows

whether or not

I choose to swim.

Biblical literalists will not like what I am about to say but I pray that they let Him speak anyway. As I read my devotional this morning the author reminded us to bring our most secret thoughts to the Lord who will cleanse them of darkness through His great love. I cannot speak for you, but I do not always do this. Thinking of Adam and Eve hiding their nakedness comes to my mind with the realization of my having always wondered how “they” could be so foolish. God could see that they were naked. But, in my youth I missed the point since the author was not promoting the sale of animal skins or fig leaves nor truly referring to the physical body. Then, as now, the point is the relationship, the love and trust and going forth into the world in testimony. If I do not lay down my nakedness before the Lord, my hands, filled with my secret fears and brokenness, are full and cannot then receive the gift He is holding out to me freely given! He is not holding back, I am. Am I willing to see reality and to receive Him?

Finding Love

May 18, 2015

I primped and perfected

or so I thought

but felt nothing.

I floated in an ocean of if only

and why not

as the waves grew higher

and brought me down.

You reached out,

you lifted me up,

you loved me.

You saw your beloved

absent of all those doubts

and insecurities.

The waters stilled

and as I looked at my reflection in them

I saw you.

Whiskers and Wonder

May 14, 2015

Glow of hope under the kitchen table,

squeaky toys on the floor.

Alarm sounds

“Mail came!”

I sit.

I rest.

You are there . . .

kisses and cuddles.

Whatever did I do without you?
