You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in your word.
Psalm 119:114 ESV
“My hiding place” initially seemed like a joke. Sure, before I truly knew the Lord, my life was one big hiding place. Thinking about it now, my new life as a reborn creature reveals so much more yet my hiding place and shield are REAL and always there but seen by me while mystifying others. For example, Let’s look at Daniel in the lion’s den. Pretty vulnerable, no? But the story didn’t end there, did it! The lions walked on still hungry.
Then there’s David . . . young and small and left to defeat Goliath, well – expected to lose the battle against the giant warrior. But who was it that walked away unscathed? The psalmist sure got it right! My hope is in Him – my Lord and my God.
WHERE HE LEADS, I WILL FOLLOW!

Seems to me that, like David, most of us are facing giants these days. Like David, we seem to be urged to wrap ourselves in the protection that this world offers. How’s that working for you?
1 Samuel 17:37
37The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go, and the LORD be with you.”
If you’ve read the other verses from this chapter, you know tiny David was given so much of this world’s protection against his giant that he could scarcely move, much less do the Lord’s will. So, the question becomes, when we like David face a giant and cannot do His will armed as this world provides, what do we do? What David did!
1 Samuel 17:45
45 David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
When we arm ourselves with our trust in the Lord, we need not cover ourselves with pounds and pounds of steel and with machine guns and the like. He has got us covered as nothing in this world ever could.
Where the Lord guides, He provides.
