. . . without you, Lord!

I do not believe in coincidences, i believe in God-instances, so when I read “nothing can separate you from my love” this morning, I knew it was not by calendar or by chance. Like Peter, my response was also “Lord, you KNOW. ..” and He does, but HE made me reread it a time or two and as I write this I am just now catching the significance.

When I feel completely robed in His love, none of my shortcomings or failures, or challenges weigh me down or scare me, but at 2am, they woke me up in fear. I prayed and got back to sleep but was disappointed in myself for having misplaced His peace. “Will I ever get it right?”

On my own? NEVER. BUT I was reminded of the words of assurance that “nothing can separate you from my love” and so when fear and trembling come I will repeat those words until my heart and mind are one! JOIN ME!

More Than Enough!

October 16, 2014
My eyes fail, looking for your promise; I say, “When will you comfort me?”
Psalm 119:81-83

Are you seeking  the Lord’s promise, His comfort?  I am.   Comfort presents a soothing image like this perhaps:

bedroom comfort

The sun is streaming through my bedroom window, the sounds of birds are singing and children at play outside while rushing off to school  .  . . the afghans, quilts, pillows and things I’ve created provide comfort.  I am, at this moment designing something of that sort to provide comfort to someone I love.  I know my gift will be appreciated.

Still, it will not be quite enough.  We cannot, in our humanness, provide “enough.”  As I read what the Psalmist writes “when will you comfort me” I am convicted.  For, like him I know the Lord’s promises, know they are real, know they are mine, and know they bring me more than enough  . . . as only He can.

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. John 14:1-3 My heart is troubled.  But I am working on that because He loves me.  Just as the throw I design and make for the one I love will provide warmth and comfort, so then will the Lord provide in much greater ways than my love can do.  So, I will stitch, I will pray, I will listen, and I will wait.  I already know how my story ends, for He already won for me the victory!

Another Red Letter Day

Ask Anything

Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you. – John 16:23 NASB

I have always loved the amazing ‘anything’s and ‘everything’s in Jesus’ language. But this one really struck me last night as we studied John 16, because it seems out of place here.

For one thing – it’s not even a whole verse (not that Jesus spoke in verses and chapters – but someone, somewhere, thought that it should not stand alone. Many translations have it near the end of a paragraph that speaks about the sorrow the boys would be feeling as…

…they stood by and gaped from the side lines as the Jews – the Romans – the Father puts Jesus to death. Their hearts would break as this One who they trusted – they believed – they abandon all to follow – would…

Promises, Promises . . .

August 17, 2012

“Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.”

                                                                                   2 Corinthians7:1

So, how often do you hear the following:

  • Definitely
  • I promise
  • Consider it done
  • Sure
  • Yes
  • I love you
  • I’m here for you
  • Call upon me anytime

How’s it working for you?  Do you believe folks when they say these things to you?  Do you doubt?  Do you sometimes wonder “what’s next . . . wonder what favor he wants?  Wonder what she did  . . .  she’s trying to get on my good side.”

I managed a office where several of my staff got flowers delivered to them, and often.  I admit, it seldom happened to me.  I also admit that with the cost of roses, as much as I love flowers there’s likely something else I’d prefer he spent money on than a dozen long stem roses from the fancy flower shop.  Know what though?  One of the girls always got angry when her husband sent flowers.  She was certain he was GUILTY of something and wasn’t gonna rest until she knew what it was.

I’d met her husband and I don’t think he was any more corrupt than the rest of us.  I think he loved his wife.  When I got flowers, they were generally carnations.  I loved them and they lasted longer than roses and cost less and the love behind them touched my heart.  Honestly, it never came to my mind that there was a disaster heading my way and the flowers were a sign.  I admit, though, when certain people came to me with “hi, honey, how are you” I thought, “trouble’s brewing.”

Reading Paul’s letter from which the above quote came brought these thoughts to me because of the words “we HAVE these promises” from God.  There is no doubt, there are no strings, we don’t have to perform a certain way to earn them, His love is ours whether we nail the purity part of the quote or not.  Still, purity is something I try to shoot for.  Not because I have to, not because He loves me, because I love Him.

His love and promises are real!  We can’t lose them, can’t earn them, and He showers us with His love and grace!  If “trouble’s brewing, it’s us who’ve failed Him and not the other way around and when this happens, He still pours out Himself on us and in us.  When we humans just could get it right, what did He do?  Scrap the notion and start over?  Give up on us?  No, He gave, but He didn’t give up.  He gave His only begotten Son.  Wow!

Miracles Every Day!

February 16, 2012

There are two ways to live: you can live as if nothing is a miracle, or you can live as if everything is a miracle.

– Albert Einstein –

As followers of Christ we are called to be in relationship with Him, looking with the eyes of our heart and soul where He lives and guided by the Holy Spirit.  If we do this we see miracles every moment of every day.  Open the eyes of my heart Lord~

The Spiritual Anti-Virus Tool

February 15, 2012

There will always be those who will challenge your faith and often those who do so will be among your closest companions.  Doubts will be planted in your heart and mind.  What do you do?  When my computer is causing concern, I scan it using my anti-virus program.  When I have a spiritual challenge, I can do the same thing by prayer and seeking answers from the Word.  His love never fails!

Philippians 4:13

King James Version (KJV)

13I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
