Choose To Live!

July 31, 2013

To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.– Oscar  Wilde –

in the pink

Wilde has it right!  Jesus desires us to live LARGE and in Him and with Him this is simple.  Rejoice and surrender and  leave the direction to Him.

It’s vacation season as I write this.  When I was small it was so much fun, but as an adult all the fuss and bother of planning rather spoiled things.  Life is that way in all things if we fly solo, but we weren’t meant to!

The sky’s the limit!  Choose Jesus!

Just as our child-selves enjoyed the life our parents planned and lead us through, so too can we as children of the Beloved Jesus, our personal Lord and Savior, have joy and TRULY live IN HIM.  Why choose to merely exist when in Him we live???

Quote of the Day – Dance!

February 26, 2013

One of my favorite people quoted this to me and I’d forgotten who said it.  Love it.  This is life in Christ!

Jesus

You’ve gotta dance like there’s nobody watching,
Love like you’ll never be hurt,
Sing like there’s nobody listening,
And live like it’s heaven on earth.

More Than A Manger

December 27, 2012

This cost me just a dollar or at the most two, yet it is worth more to me than money.  It represents everything Jesus came to do and everything He did . . . for me.  When I hold it in my hand, the entire circular base of the basket depicts all of the characters in the Bible story we heard a day or two ago.  The scented dried florals in it remind me of both the gifts brought to Him at Epiphany and the perfume later used to wash His feet.  The handle looks, to me, like a crown of thorns which, we know all too well, was later placed on His head as He was mocked and killed for each one of us.  They say a baby changes everything . . . this one did.

What The Love Of Christ Can Do – A Tuesday Quote

October 16, 2012

When we give ourselves to Christ and invite Him to live in us and through us, we are changed in ways we alone never could imagine.  Not only that but together we can participate in changing the world for and with Him:

When we love, we always strive to become better than we are. When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.   – Paulo Cohelo –

Jesus Wants More For Me Than Someone Else’s Pizza!

August 11, 2012

Okay, I was craving pizza.  There’s one place that’s very expensive but the pizza’s best around, then there’s the places making claims to “fresh” pizza available IMMEDIATELY and for only 5.00 . . . . so they don’t know I’m coming or what I will want but mystically my pizza will be conceived of by them and made “fresh”  before I even drive into the lot, and this happens HOW?

I’m not fussy in the way some people are.  You know . . . the ones who never seem happy with anything they’ve got.  But of late I’m finding that I’ve lived a lot of my life being molded by what others deemed sensible and what others wanted for me.  Well, the Lord had a plan for my life before I was born and well, sorry all you folks who want what you want me to be, but I’m not God nor are you and when I do what He has planned for me, He is glorified, I am anointed and His joy fills my heart.

It’s kinda like settling for someone else’s pizza.  It’s okay . . . it fills my tummy . . . it tastes pretty good, really it does, but from the contents of my own kitchen I made my own homemade pizza.  I’ve always and I do mean ALWAYS ordered my pizza “out” and somehow it was a whole lot like living someone else’s life.  It was okay.  I was made for more than that!  So, at an age when some people are thinking about a smaller house now that junior’s in college . . . I’m working hand-in-hand with Jesus and finding out how amazing His plan for my life is.  It’s new!  It’s different!  He doesn’t reveal much by way of details and I’m learning what the word trust REALLY means, but all that being said, I can already tell you it’s amazing.  I’m learning that when I am having a sleepless night over how the bank account’s gonna get me through another month, I can pray for more faith,  more trust, and to feel His peace and He understands and delivers and I slip gently to sleep in His arms.

My life isn’t making everyone who knows me happy all the time.  Some people grew a bit used to me being compliant and available.  But life in this world is too short and I don’t want to wander in circles for 40 years trying to get to my promised land . . . I want to live the life He selected for me.  I gave Him my heart and He gave me His.  I’m not going to live a life meant for somebody else anymore and I’m not gonna settle for somebody else’s pizza!  Life can be delicious!

Regarding my pizza, I always have Bisquick on hand for last-minute wonders . . . and pancakes.  lol  So, liking a light and flaky crust, I mixed 1/3 cup of hot water and about 1 1/2 cups of Bisquick (don’t over mix it) and pressed into a greased pizza pan.  I used my favorite tomato sauce and topped it with mozzarella and feta cheese, then some calamatta olives.  Put into a 450 degree oven with the rack at the lowest level in the oven and cooked it for about 12 minutes.  But I encourage you to be wild and make your pizza your way.  I’m planning to use the same crust next time with spinach and a heavier handful of feta  . . . maybe some roasted garlic in pieces big enough to know you’re eating it . . . a white pizza . . . lots of calamatta olives too!  From there, who knows???

Intrusions of Grace

August 8, 2012

Unexpected intrusions of beauty. This is what life is.

– Saul Bellow –

I love LOVE LOVE this quote.  It is so relevent to my heart, soul, and mind.  I like to think I’m pretty smart and I can “handle it.”  What does this mean?  It means the Lord has the answer to my prayers in hand and is waiting for me to stop chasing my tail and let Him pour out His grace on me!  When I stop spinning, I am often interrupted.  Interrupted by Him.  When I truly stop, become quiet, and listen – the beauty of His love and grace so fills me I am left breathless!  This is what life in Christ is!

Life In Christ – Pass It On!

March 2, 2012

Good design is a renaissance attitude that combines technology, cognitive science, human need, and beauty to produce something that the world didn’t know it was missing.

– Paola Antonelli –

Life is hard.  Jesus told us it would be.  He said that when we are His followers we were in for a rough time.  Easy life?  Not for a Christian.

Wilderness?

Stormy seas?

Evil one?

Life this side of “heaven” as they say . . .  won’t be a constant party.  Or will it?  Truth is, He is the truth and for a Christian He is always there to calm the storm, lead us through the wilderness, protect us, love us, carry the load with us and for us, and He seeks to give us gifts we cannot place a value on.  We have . .  .

The Holy Spirit,

Jesus’ heart,

His compassion,

His ears,

HIs eyes.

The world, from the perspective of the kingdom of this world, is pretty bleak at best.  But, like the quote above tells us of good design, God’s design for us brings us life as this world cannot see . . . and doesn’t even know it is missing.  For us, a bad day can be full of joy.  For us a good day?  indescribable!

The Importance of Being Steadfast

September 28, 2011

It seems to me that most of my friends are being tested, tempted, challenged just now.  I know I’m not having an easy time of it – and I know I’m not alone.  So, there are things we can do.  We can moan, we can shake with fear, or we can seek Christ.  Well, the first two aren’t working for me, so I’m getting back on track and finding out what I’ve always known.  Jesus is here with me and rooting for me.  Those who would try to distract us can drown out His voice if we let them.  We do not have to let them.  Here are some verses to uplift  you:

Jeremiah 29:11-13

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.  You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

James 1:2-3

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.

1 Timothy 4:16

Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers

James 5:11

Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful.

Galatians 6:9

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

Philippians 1:6

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 10:36

For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.

Hebrews 12:1

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

2 Peter 1:5-7

For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.

Revelation 2:2

“‘I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false.

Colossians 2:5

5 For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how orderly you are and how firm your faith in Christ is.

Hebrews 4:14

14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens,[a] Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.

1 Corinthians 16:13

13 Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong.

1 Peter 5:9

Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

Ewww! Gross!!!!!

July 25, 2011

Gross!!!  Hmmm . . . might be betraying my generation and age by using that word, but I’ll bet you got the point.  Ewww!  Seriously.  Was tired last night and flipped through the channels on TV and came upon s show on the Food network.  Not gonna even discuss what they were eating.  Used to be alive though.  Then I flipped further and found a nature channel and not only saw a creature I’d never want to meet up close, but he was closing in on dinner and let’s just say, I flipped the channel quickly not wanting to see that.  I headed to Facebook where I found that a friend had the joy of unloading a wild beast with sharp teeth from a spot in his yard where the foolish creature had gotten caught.  Back to TV.  This time I hit a home remodeling station and found a show where they happily displayed a kitchen overrun with mice and sure enough the family was eating at the kitchen table . . . . one of those shows about people who can’t throw anything out and actually choose to live in a mess.  Okay, I live in the south and we get bugs here that are big enough to place a saddle on but I work hard to keep them far from my front door!

Is there a point to this?  There sure is!  I was just thinking that these things I just mentioned remind me of my walk with Christ.  Yup, it’s true.  First off, He is waiting with loving arms stretched calling me ot turn over my mess to Him, yet I foolishly find myself all too often keeping my mess.  Hey, it’s familiar.  I’m used to my mess.  I don’t like my mess.  Hmmm . . . they say change can be good.  He is smiling and holding out His arms to me.  Maybe I should . . . .

I sometimes find myself trapped in a situation I got myself in . . . He is there waiting me every time.  He sets me free.

I don’t always understand His purpose in my life, but you know what?  He had a purpose in creating those creatures I find totally gross.  He has one for me, too!  What a relief!
