NEW YEAR – NEW BLESSINGS

Among Weeds and Thorns

When the garden is filled with weeds

Yet one stubborn flower

Finds the strength to grow,

Am I to frown

Because it is the only one?

Is it not a very welcomed blessing?

Surely its beauty

Nourishes my hungry soul

Giving me the strength

To tackle the overgrowth

Of opposition

Not unlike the single

Blooming rose

Basking in the midst

Of thorns;

Hope

Of a coming new season!

DON’T HATE MONDAY!

Tee shirt vendors got it wrong!  God gave us a new day . . . let’s be hopeful . . . thankful even!  Attitude matters!

 

I awakened to a quiet house.

It was very early

and the only noise was

the soft sound of my dog asleep nearby.

Sensing my gaze,

she stumbled out of bed and followed me.

I sit sipping my first cup of coffee

and breathe in the peaceful soft sounds of the new day.

I don’t know what the day brings

but I know who brought it.

That is sufficient.

SEEK, SMILE, GIVE THANKS

 

I awakened to clouds

Hindering the sunshine

From lifting my spirits

As I approached the new day.

Stretching,

I sipped morning tea

In my quiet place

Saying nothing.

I heard only

The soft restful breaths

From my pup

Who snuggled close to me

And feared nothing.

I found my heart

And soul awakening finally

Then a bit of morning light

Caught my eye

As a bird called out

To her hungry wee ones.

A duet of fluttering wings

Met fluttering leaves

And the last of the raindrops

Rippled on the ground.

There is always beauty to be found.

New days meet new opportunities.

To find, we must

Seek, smile, and give thanks!

EVEN ME

 

Our Lord came,

Born to peasants,

He did chores,

Grew up, chose a few easily overlooked helpers,

And opened the gates of heaven

For generations of us sinners.

He has a special purpose

For each of us.

HOPE’S MORNING RAYS

 

The house is quiet.

It is early morning

And the moon is handing the reins to the sun.

The illusion of darkness fades

As the breath of a new day

Fills my heart and soul.

“Good Morning” Hope seems to say.

I rise.
