Daily Retreat?

August 30, 2018

We all need reminding . . .

Quiet times with the Lord should not be considered a luxury which we hope to fit in, but instead a necessity to begin the day with.  A retreat . . . a meal for a hungry soul.  A retreat is livegiving but need not seem unattainable!  One can take place in our own livingroom, in our favorite chair . . . simply by getting up a little earlier.  The difference it will make in our day, in our life, is beyond description!   Try it!

Daily Prompt: Seven Days

March 8, 2013

question-marks

You wake up tomorrow morning to find all your plans have been cancelled for the next seven days and $10,000 on your dresser. Tell us about your week.

bank

Wow. that’s a whole lot of money in my world just now just as it is in the lives of many folks I know.  The first thing I’d do is deposit this into the bank and get out the checkbook.  On the way home from the bank I just happen to pass by my church, so the first check written would be one for ten percent which I’d donate to my church.

The second check would pay off unsecured debt.  The rest of the week?  I’d go on a retreat and pray to discern the Lord’s plan for the remainder, His plan for the next steps in my spiritual journey, and for certain in thanksgiving for the miracle of provision provided.

There is a beautiful place to go for said retreat and quiet time . . .

It is a place I’ve gone to for day trips and have hungered to spend more time there . . .

I’d sit beneath the tree and pray . . .

I’d enjoy the presence of the Lord without distraction of earthly things . . . .

sunrise-md

I’d gaze at flowers, listen to birds, bask in sunrise and sunset and see Him in every single one . . .

I’d light a candle and read His word . . .

and talk to Him some more, being certain to take the time to listen.

book

I’d be the pen in His hand, writing as He enables me . . .

and my week would be filled with Him day and night

As my week comes to a close, I’d fall into step with Him certain of His love.

So, About the Dolphins

January 19, 2012

I put a teaser in my award post about “the dolphins” and since you’ve asked so nicely, I’m happy to tell you about them.  I am sorry to report that I didn’t have a camera with me so you’ll have to envision this scene.

A year ago I had a life changing experience.  I made my Cursillo at Camp St Christopher on John’s Island SC  and this link will show you the photographs you seek.  This weekend retreat was on a lovely wooded and water front area that smelled good, looked good and resulted in my heart and soul and very life changing forever.  All of the senses drank in the surroundings and were cleansed, renewed, and refreshed by the living waters there.

If you are not familiar with Cursillo, simply click here to be brought to a website with information on it.  I’m sure  your church will have information they can share with you as well.    Cursillo, in short, is a movement in the Christian faith which will lead you to know the love of Christ as you’ve never known it before.  It is a retreat which will change your life no matter who you are or what your life is like before you’ve experienced it.  If you wish to go deeper in your personal relationship in Him, wish to know and see Him in all whom you meet and thus feel love and friendship as never before, and gain valuable tools to be all you were created to be and enabled to lead others to experience Him as well, this movement is for you.

The dolphins.  Each day of the retreat began before sunrise in a “church” which was at once rustic and beautiful and as we prayed and praised there at the beginning of each day facing the large open window beside the altar, we looked out at the water and not a moment went by without our seeing sunrise accompanied by dolphins leaping in praise.  There can be nothing more spectacular than the amazing love of the Lord in such a setting!  It was like spending a weekend in heaven!   Walking the grounds during times set aside for personal reflection, we were greeted by families of deer as well!

I have said little really about Cursillo.  This is not because I wish to keep it to myself but more because it is something that is felt in such a deep way in your body, mind, and spirit that mere words can never describe it, just as words cannot capture the love of the Lord Himself.

In closing I will say this:  make a friend, be a friend, lead a friend to Christ

Retreat – Renew – Refresh

July 20, 2011

I sat down to the computer thinking I “need to” do . . . “should be” doing . . . “have got to” do . . . and realized sometimes all that must be set aside.  Sometimes I need to just be.  Yes, that’s right.  All those things we let take up our days and nights . . . when we take the time to be with the Lord in quiet and seek only Him, when we take a retreat whether at a place away from home or in a quiet corner of our own house, we are renewed and refreshed and far more enabled to “do” all those things He wants us to.  It’s amazing and it’s true.  Try it . . . really try it, just once.  You’ll be amazed and you’ll realize all our busy hours and days become more manageable when He’s a part of all of our “stuff.”

I sat down to the computer and realized I had a headache.  I suddenly thought of a song I truly love and am ALWAYS inspired by and so I played it.  Here’s a link to it.  Hillsong’s Shout to the Lord.    You can find the Lord anywhere you are if you look.  Shout with delight!  Shout from the mountaintops, shout from the valley, shout from your own backyard.  In all things, shout to the Lord with praise!  Oh, and did I mention that my headache has gone?  Thank you Lord!
