Can’t Give Up!

What do you see?

What Does God See?

I was just watching some women being “made over” on television.  They “needed” it.  Don’t we all, in our secret hearts, yearn for a make over?  Come on, at some point in life, haven’t you looked in the mirror and been unimpressed?

At the hands of stylists, fashion “experts” and the like, these two ladies got jazzy clothes, new makeup, dramatically new hairstyles . . . and everybody cried over how amazing they’d become.

Does what our mirror tell us reveal our authentic selves?  Does this reflection have an impact on our performance?  Are we seeing what’s really there?  These ladies felt new and hopeful because of the “changes” made by talented humans . . . just imagine how our loving God can lead us to becoming the beautiful creatures He sees in us!  He doesn’t see what our mirror impresses on us.  He sees our “real” selves.  His “makeover” can change the world.  All we have to do is surrender to His love.

What’s In Your Garage?

January 23, 2012

A friend was cleaning out her garage and found some things that had been there too long.  A quick glance told her I might be able to do something with them and so they were offered to me.  I accepted them and as I looked through the boxes of bits and pieces, images of what they might become started to come to my mind.  I saw the fragments coming together and becoming something new and useful and beautiful, but knew it would take some work.  They’d been on shelves for a long time and there was the dust of many years of disappointment and missed opportunity and neglect and false hope.  Sweeping those away, I got to the more challenging part.  There were all the frayed edges and a build up of good enough and given up which had to be cut away.  As I began to do so, I got to the beauty I knew was underneath!  Finding what was real beneath all that had built up around it revealed this to me.  I found hope, I found opportunity.  Along with them were warmth, joy, and purpose!  They were always there but had somehow gotten hidden from view.  They were nearly lost or so it seemed, and so I ask you what’s in your garage?   Are you willing to give it to God so that His purpose might be revealed and fulfilled in your life?

Isaiah 55:10

New International Version 1984 (NIV1984)

10 As the rain and the snow
   come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
   without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,

Job 42:2

New International Version 1984 (NIV1984)

 2 “I know that you can do all things;
no plan of yours can be thwarted.

1 Corinthians 15:51-54

New International Version 1984 (NIV1984)

51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”[a]
