What the Songbirds Taught Me

December 3, 2018

I woke with a start!

My dog sat up at my feet in bed

Daylight began to shake its head

and so did my sleepy Scrappy!

She doesn’t care for rain

but loves the screened in porch.

I stood near and felt the morning damp chill.

My dog cocked her head and smiled.

I wondered . . .

Then rain and wind were not what I heard or felt

but rather

a choir of birds singing their songs in joyful harmony

from the upper branches of a tree in my yard.

Whether rain or likely reign,

they knew no fear . . .

only love.

It Is Well!

November 17, 2018

My heartbeat quickened when I heard your voice

Beckoning me to come and see,

And eagerly I stepped out into the night.

The cool air refreshed me

And though I walked hesitantly at first,

I soon hurried on in hopeful anticipation.

We were making progress,

You said.

I, my human sight far weaker

Than your vision for me,

Saw only that home and familiarity

Were no longer in view

And realized the night air had grown cold.

I held my breath,

Saw the darkness and wondered at the hour.

I lost sight of you,

And felt frozen in place

Without a plan,

With legs suddenly as marble,

Stiff and immobile

I wondered what to do,

My eyes tightly shut.

I cried out

And heard your voice,

As though you were standing

Right in front of me

“I’m here” you said, reassuring me.

I opened my eyes and saw you

Standing so close

Your presence warmed me

In body and in soul.

You reached out,

I placed my hand in yours.

“Look!” you said

And I saw more stars than I could count

Studding the night sky.

“I placed each one of them there for you”

You told me.

At that moment, I knew your love

As I had never known it before

And hope swelled within me

Until happy tears fell

And we walked on together.

“It is well” you assured me,

But I already knew.

WHAT I LEARNED FROM SHEEP

November 13, 2018

It seems we ALWAYS seek to do

things we choose, in our own way.

But sheep are never left alone

to make up their own minds.

They seem so calm and rested

and do as the shepherd tells them to.

Love and care he offers

and they easily accept.

They are totally dependant on him.

Yet when God reacts this way to us,

we turn the other way.

I used to think sheep foolish creatures!

But, they aren’t the fools,

we are!

LIFE CHANGING TRUTH!

and everywhere you go,

‘I am in the presence of God.’”

My Father

November 6, 2018

My residence – so disappointing,

there was nothing I could do.

I was ready to give up

but then my Father spoke to me.

He started with the woodwork,

old ceilings to bad floors.

He renovated tattered walls

and then the windows had to go!

He worked hard day and night . . .

took up residence right there.

Instead of leaving in the night,

His love did me repair.

I learned  so very much from Him!

Soon everything was new!

I want to be so much like Him,

giving blessings in His name!

MY MORNING PRAYER

November 5, 2018

LORD, thank you for taking residence in my heart and soul and for never giving up on me even when I weaken and am tempted to give up on myself!  Strengthen me to see beyond the darkness where there is Light and to shine Your light on those whom you place in my path.  Your glory IS my joy now and always!  AMEN
