SEASON OF WONDER

November 25, 2016

As we approach the season of joy and wonder, I find myself gazing at the babe but seeing something more . . .

Was That The Tree?

Gazing at my picture book,

one which someone cast aside,

I spied a picture of a tree . . .

the “Holy Land” the title said,

though surely nothing there

remains from Jesus’ day  . . . .

nothing but perhaps that tree

believed to be perhaps

a remainder of a time long past

but burned into the heart and soul

within me.

If this tree could talk,

would it tell of a man who leaned against it,

one who smiled,

one who loved,

one who willingly died for me?

Could it have been a limb

from that very tree

on which the deed was done?

Anticipation or dread . . .

You chaRge the beating of my heart

and set my eager feet in motion,

but which way points the compass?

Have Faith, BUT . . .

November 23, 2016

I have been facing BIG challenges for a while, as many of us do.  People have “encouraged” me saying”have faith” followed by “most people never get help for . .. ” or “the new president is getting rid of . . . ” Fortunately I DO have faith, as did my family before me.

Limits?  Not my Lord!

My late Uncle Bob had only one arm.  As a child he played ball, rode his bike . . . he grew up and joined the yaught club, was a great golfer, personally rebuilt his house . . . I guess they forgot to tell him he could never do those things . . .

It Is Well!

My heartbeat quickened when I heard your voice

Beckoning me to come and see,

And eagerly I stepped out into the night.

The cool air refreshed me

And though I walked hesitantly at first,

I soon hurried on in hopeful anticipation.

We were making progress,

You said.

I, my human sight far weaker

Than your vision for me,

Saw only that home and familiarity

Were no longer in view

And realized the night air had grown cold.

I held my breath,

Saw the darkness and wondered at the hour.

I lost sight of you,

And felt frozen in place

Without a plan,

With legs suddenly as marble,

Stiff and immobile

I wondered what to do,

My eyes tightly shut.

I cried out

And heard your voice,

As though you were standing

Right in front of me

“I’m here” you said, reassuring me.

I opened my eyes and saw you

Standing so close

Your presence warmed me

In body and in soul.

You reached out,

I placed my hand in yours.

“Look!” you said

And I saw more stars than I could count

Studding the night sky.

“I placed each one of them there for you”

You told me.

At that moment, I knew your love

As I had never known it before

And hope swelled within me

Until happy tears fell

And we walked on together.

“It is well” you assured me,

But I already knew.

UNLOCK THE SECRET TO JOY

November 19, 2016

bread of life

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.    -Melody Beattie
