Quilting, FiberArt & Painting

Perfect for a novice quilter or an experienced one.  A great excuse for a walk in the wood – seek a few colorful leaves to use as templates then cut them from some interesting fabric with a suitable colored pattern.  In this example, I appliqued them by hand using blanket stitch, then added a border and binding and simply quilted it around the leaves and around the edge of the lighter colored fabric shown.  I added a handling sleeve to the back and as you can see, used an extra curtain rod to hang it.

Holiday cookie cutters make templates for a variety of themed wall hanging quilts, other ideas can be found in children’s coloring books.  Look around you and have some fun!

Thank you! I am not one for hand stitching but this would work up well and quickly for totally hand piecing and quilting. The leaves or other choices of applique can be tacked in place with fusible webbing. I like the blanket stitch for the applique since it leaves a bit of a raw edge to the leaves which enhances the design as I see it, but certainly any method of applique will work well with this.
